Batters Box Background:

Cory Sumner is the owner and co-founder of Batters Box Baseball and Sumner Athletics, LLC. Cory has been a professional baseball hitting instructor and coach since 2002. He and his father, the late Dr. Tim Sumner, founded what is now known as the Batters Box in fall of 2002. During the last 20 years, Cory has worked with more than 10,000 young men and women and has coached and instructed hundreds of players that have gone on to play at the next level.

In fall 2009 the Batters Box, under Cory’s direction, launched a high school showcase team program. The Batters Box team program saw tremendous growth and rapidly became not only one of the premier summer and fall travel programs in the Mid-South, but also in the nation. In fall 2013, Batters Box expanded to include youth competitive teams. The Batters Box now has 30 teams, from ages 7-18U.

In 2013, Cory Sumner inked a deal teaming the Batters Box up with global baseball equipment and apparel powerhouse Wilson/DeMarini to become one of only seven initial national programs sponsored by Wilson/DeMarini. The Batters Box program is still proud to partner with and be sponsored by Wilson/DeMarini/Lousiville Slugger/Evoshield/ATEC.

Since starting the Batters Box team program in fall of 2009, Cory Sumner has coached over 3,000 games between 15-18U showcase teams as well as 7-14U youth teams. Over that time, he has also led our player promotion and development efforts and has been instrumental in helping send over 500 Batters Box players and clients on to college and professional baseball and softball.
