Box History

The Batters Box opened in February 2009 and is now known as the premier baseball and softball training facility in the Mid-South. This state-of-the-art nearly 20,000 square foot facility is conveniently located just off TN 385 and Poplar at 456 Keough Road in Collierville, TN. ​

The Batters Box now boasts its own outdoor baseball field complete with a full-size Major League size turf infield located just out the back door of the Box. Thanks to an extremely generous gift by the Dr. Tim Sumner Foundation, in fall 2020, we added Musco LED lights to our field making it the first LED lit youth baseball field in the entire Mid-South! Our field is now named in honor of our late co-founder of the Batters Box and is known as Dr. Tim Sumner Field. 

The Batters Box was established in 2002 by Cory Sumner and his father, Dr. Tim Sumner, in a 600 square foot garage located on the border of Germantown and Collierville, TN. Over the last 20 years, more than 10,000 young men and women have benefited from lessons, instruction, and coaching by Batters Box co-founders Cory Sumner, the late Dr. Tim Sumner, as well as countless other Batters Box instructors, staff, and coaches.

More than 500 Batters Box clients and players have gone on to reach their dreams by playing in college and the pros. The Batters Box offers baseball and softball hitting, defensive, and pitching lessons. Our Batters Box team program is now one of the largest youth baseball organizations in the Mid-South and country with over 25 teams covering ages 7-18U.
